Job Brief

The Associate Director of Construction will be integral in designing and improving the building infrastructure for Twelve’s research, manufacturing, and production facilities. In this role, you will lead the selection and design of new manufacturing, production and research facilities. You will establish scope, select sites, and drive design development. In this role you will turn abstract and evolving needs into clear project plans while leading a team of Facilities Project Managers and reporting to the Director of R&D Facilities.

You will be in a position to make a significant impact upon growth initiatives at Twelve while working in a fluid startup environment. This role will be responsible for overall construction efforts as well as manage some projects directly. Primary responsibilities include strategic planning, resource management, and developing systems, forms and structures for Twelve’s construction efforts. This role will coordinate with internal stakeholders, project managers, architects and contractors to design new facilities. An ideal candidate will have experience distilling murky and conflicting needs into project charters, permit sets and functional facilities. What You Will Do

  • Team and Strategy Leadership
    • Lead and develop an internal team of Facilities Project Managers.
    • Work with Twelve leadership to understand, prioritize, and resource evolving facility needs.
    • Work with Facilities Project Managers through new project startup:
      • Determining stakeholders and internal resources
      • Establishing scope and budget
      • Site selection
      • Onboarding contractors
      • Design development
    • Support Facilities Project Managers through construction with problem solving and technical and financial decisions.
    • Evaluate deficiencies in existing facilities and drive improvements.
  • Construction Project Management
    • Work with internal teams to refine utility and infrastructure requirements for new equipment and processes.
    • Manage construction project teams to build new facilities and improve existing infrastructure while minimizing impacts on research and development teams.
    • Lead technical evaluation of potential facilities and the selection/onboarding of design/build contractors.
    • Provide contractor direction, feedback, and supervision as needed during construction.
    • Manage communication between contractors and relevant company stakeholders.
    • Work with the internal operations teams to commission and handoff new sites: furnishings, operational permits, training, etc.

Who You Are

  • You have at least 8 years of experience in construction management plus several years in a leadership role.
  • You are a strong communicator and facilitator
  • You must be able to travel internationally; this role would include up to 10% travel.
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree (required). A STEM field degree is ideal but not required.
  • Your construction project management experience includes high tech facilities such as cleanrooms, laboratories, chemical processing plants and production facilities
  • You have strong technical fundamentals and can easily interpret equipment spec sheets, MEP drawings, and P&IDs.
  • You are equipped to work autonomously in an abstract, less-defined startup environment.

At Twelve, it's important each employee is compensated competitively and fairly. In alignment with state legal requirements, Twelve conducts exhaustive research to understand compensation markets. A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level.
United States Wage Range: $160,000 - $200,000
Please note that some pay bands may have wide ranges of compensation to accommodate candidate's diverse sets of skill levels.
