Position: Vice President, Division Solutions (Front-of-the-Meter)
Reports to: Vice President, Corporate Development

By combining advanced energy storage solutions with Athena™, a world-class artificial intelligence (AI)-powered analytics platform, Stem enables customers and partners to optimize energy use by automatically switching between battery power, onsite generation and grid power. Stem’s solutions help enterprise customers benefit from a clean, adaptive energy infrastructure and achieve a wide variety of goals, including expense reduction, productivity improvements, resilience, sustainability, environmental and corporate responsibility and innovation. Stem also offers full support for solar partners interested in adding storage to standalone, community or commercial solar projects – both behind and in front of the meter.

Stem’s culture embodies diversity & inclusion beyond the traditional facets of gender, ethnicity, age, disabilities, and sexual orientation to include experience, personality, communication, workstyles, and more. At our core, Stem is at the momentous intersection of clean energy and software technology where diverse ideas, experiences, and professional skills converge to make the inclusive culture we have today. Together, we are turning old school thoughts about software and energy into progressive, collaborative, and innovative solutions. By joining our team, you will be collaborating with data scientists, energy experts, skilled salespeople, thought-leading executives and more from a range of backgrounds. This intersection of ideas, beliefs, and skills is what makes us unique enough to lead the world’s largest network of digitally connected energy storage systems.

What we are looking for:
Stem is organized into three business divisions: Front-of-the-Meter (FTM), Behind-the-Meter (BTM) and Asset Management. FTM and BTM sell solar and storage solutions that typically involve a combination of hardware, software and services to C&I and utility-scale customers, respectively. Asset Management sells software and services-only offerings spanning the lifecycle of storage and solar projects and portfolios to large utility-scale and asset manager customers, while enabling commercial success at the FTM and BTM divisions.

The VP of Division Solutions for FTM plays the critical strategic role in defining the solutions portfolio for the division. This role will be responsible for creating the “solution” or suite of offerings, which combine Stem products and services that drive commercial results and establish Stem’s reputation in the software and services-only energy space. This will be accomplished through direct to market as well as distribution channel and partnership strategies. In addition to providing the strategic product leadership for the division, the Solutions leader will craft a broad vision for Stem’s offerings that compels customers, motivates employees and drives sales. This person should be able to switch focus between “big picture” to “obsessive detail” quickly and fluently, executing tactically in the near term while articulating a compelling long-term vision for the solution suite that Stem offers. Importantly, this person needs to be able to present coherent views not just on how each relevant product/solution works for customers, but how they work in concert with each other to create compelling business for Stem. The successful candidate will be a natural candidate for advancement into more senior roles at the company.

Specifically, the VP of Division Solutions for FTM will focus on crafting a solutions and product strategy regarding:

  • Stem’s software offerings, including growth in financial APM, digital twin, asset operations, optimization and advanced analytics offerings, and adjacent offerings and business models
  • Enhancements to Stem’s storage optimization suite of offerings, including expansion into solutions facing commodity traders and other sophisticated wholesale power markets participants
  • Services offerings that provide complements to the above and utilize our growing suite of technology/software offerings
  • Defining and validating the financial performance of Stem’s solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s requirements
  • Integration of Stem’s software and service offerings with select OEM solar and storage solutions that will deliver the customer’s objectives

The VP of Division Solutions for FTM will define and build a team that addresses both outward-facing solutions requirements and business strategy, while also collaborating with Stem’s corporate product team to define business requirements and collaboratively build offerings in tandem with other Divisions.

Responsibilities:
- Generate and maintain a FTM solutions strategy and roadmap that extends Stem’s competitive advantage
- Build buy-in and excitement from the broader Stem business about FTM offerings, and ensure collaboration around strategy, solution definition, commercial rollout, etc.
- Develop a culture of data-driven solutions decisions, including the use of market and competitive analytics, voice of customer and user centered design
- Partner with Product Marketing to perform market research and competitive analysis, as well as to define requirements for effective solution launches (e.g., pricing, packaging, messaging, training, etc.), including cross-functional launch plans with key success metrics
- Partner with Stem Product Management to define and prioritize the product roadmap necessary to meet the Solution requirements and create a differentiated offering in the energy market
- Develop pricing strategies that are competitive and deliver value to the market while producing a positive margin that will contribute to Stem’s overall financial performance and shareholder value
- Ensure FTM priorities and backlog are communicated and actionable, with well-defined goals and objectives, collaborating all company stakeholders to ensure transparency and collective understanding of the prioritization of the Asset Management roadmap
- Represent Stem’s FTM offerings and capabilities in customer and partner settings, trade venues, other industry forums

Required Experience:
- Deep renewables or power industry experience, including from the standpoint of working either within or serving asset managers, infrastructure funds, renewables developers or large integrated IPPs
- Familiarity with all aspects of the renewable energy market including the different uses of storage and solar assets in Front-of and Behind-the meter applications
- Familiarity with lifecycle of product management and product development processes that leverage technology to provide a differentiated value to energy asset investors, developers and operators
- Familiarity with the lifecycle of project development, construction and operations, including how developers and asset owners drive capital formation and mitigate risk
- Experience leading the product management or product marketing organization within both growth-stage and established energy company environments
- Demonstrated success in leading major product initiatives from inception through execution: setting vision, leading product discovery and design discussions, defining roadmap, managing releases, and tracking success metrics
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with an executive presence to a variety of audiences including customer, partners and all levels of internal stakeholders
- History of setting and achieving strategic goals using research, data, planning and execution
- Demonstrated knowledge of multiple functional areas, including engineering, sales, customer operations, finance, and marketing
