IT System Network Administrator

Boston Metal is a metallurgy company developing technology to reduce the carbon footprint of steel production.

Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production by improving metal quality while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This fast-paced startup company is looking for an IT System Network Administrator to join the team.
Duties will include working to maintain, upgrade and manage our software, hardware, and networks. Proactively support the organization's computer systems and network environment. Maintain all firewalls, switch stacks, switches, and routers as well as network hardware. Ensure the availability and optimal performance of the network and perform day-to-day maintenance and management of network devices. Perform application administration activities such as creating, modifying, and deleting users, optimizing remote access, and security access for messaging systems, databases, and web applications. Support, troubleshoot, and provide resolution for application, hardware, and communication problems. Schedule upgrades and collaborate with engineers on network / system optimization. Maintain operating efficiency and stability, ensure the security and integrity of all systems and data, and respond to outages and other issues. Coordinate with department leaders to plan, design, and schedule the release of all software, hardware, or operating system updates. Develop and enhance processes and technical documentation. Conduct work assignments as directed. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and provide tier 2 support to our helpdesk. You should also have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users.

Your goal will be to ensure that our technology and infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities
- Install and configure software and hardware.
- Manage network servers and technology tools.
- Set up accounts and workstations.
- Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements.
- Troubleshoot issues and outages.
- Ensure security through access controls, backups, and firewalls.
- Upgrade systems with new releases and models.
- Develop expertise to train staff in new technologies.
- Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals, and IT policies.

Requirements and skills
- Minimum 2-4 yrs proven experience as a System/Network Administrator or similar role
- BS/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline
- Professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)) is a plus
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery.
- The ability to create scripts is a plus.
- Familiarity with various systems such as:
- Okta, Zscaler, Datto, Sophos, SolidWorks, Office 365, Teams, SharePoint, Active Directory & Azure AD
- Familiarity with various operating systems. (Windows, Mac, Linux)
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills

Additional Information:
You will be working in a small team environment where teamwork and good relationships with other team members is critical. Many of our staff members are required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and you should be prepared to do so as well when necessary.
