Controls Software Engineer

As a Controls Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and deployment of the control components of our products. You will work closely with our product development and engineering team on a variety of products. On a given day, you may integrate a new data acquisition device, design and deploy machine control software, or engage with outside vendors or automation partners to bring our products into an automated manufacturing line. The ideal candidate will approach this work with a mixture of intellectual curiosity, thoughtful creativity, and methodical rigor. Minimum Requirements

● Leading controls-related development projects for product integration into automated manufacturing.
● Designing of electrical and controls systems for material handling, inspection, and data acquisition.
● Developing in-line control systems for low and high volume battery manufacturing that interface with SCADA, MES, data acquisition, and data transfer systems.
● Creating and sharing best practices amongst the software and hardware engineering group.
● Engaging with customers’ and partners’ technical staff to gather requirements and feedback on system functions.
● Evaluating and integrating new control system components.
● Implementing tools to calibrate, validate, and troubleshoot system performance.
● May be asked to travel to customer sites to support product validation and installation.
● Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to define function requirements and tradeoffs.
● Driving the requirements collection, design and development of industrial HMIs.
● Bringing bench scale prototypes into productized systems with manufacturability and serviceability in mind.
● Managing projects and collaborating with partners on in-line product development and demonstration.
● On-site deployment support and troubleshooting, and implementing improvements in next generation products based on learnings.
● Collecting FAT and SAT requirements and ensuring that product meets said requirements.
● Kicking off initiatives that improve the quality and safety of the product.
● A passion for working to accelerate the global transition to clean energy.
● 3+ years experience in a controls/mechatronics-oriented engineering role.
● Experience with industrial PLC/IPC/other controllers and data acquisition systems- Beckhoff preferred, Allen-Bradley, etc.
● Experience developing/integrating automated equipment for/into an automated manufacturing system.
● Experience controlling and interacting with industrial equipment programmatically, e.g. over serial, GPIO, or Ethernet.
● Keen eye for improving processes. Adept at diagnosing and troubleshooting problems.

Nice to haves (bonus skills)

● Experience with OPC-UA, MES and SCADA communications.
● Experience with developing + building industrial equipment Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) .
● Experience working collaboratively with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to define
functional requirements and trade offs.
