Position Overview

Responsible for creating and driving Continuous Improvement initiatives throughout Proterra Transit. Partner with functional leaders in driving innovation, continuous improvement, throughput, cost efficiencies and risk mitigation in critical aspects of the business. Additionally, develop a comprehensive program strategy and deploy processes for Transit Quality, which includes Factory Quality, Supplier Quality & Development, and Customer Quality.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities (*identifies Essential Functions)
- Responsible for leading the development and implementation of complex business processes and continuous improvement initiatives as well as overseeing the execution of solutions impacting profitability and operational efficiencies.
- Leverage business and industry knowledge and best practices when consulting with Business, IT, and Finance stakeholders to recommend and drive innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Partner with the Continuous Improvement team capturing all work activities, prioritization, tracking, resource allocation, and reporting of key priorities and initiatives.
- Own and maintain consistent business process and continuous improvement management tools, methodologies, and approaches in support of the business goals across all of Proterra Transit.
- Monitor and identify controls of the future state business process performance through project completion and handoff to the business partner (Finance, Engineering, Customer Success, Supply Chain, Service, and/or Operations).
- Continuous improvement projects include, but are not limited to, lean initiatives, manufacturing and warehouse layout transformations, process improvements, data management and KPI tracking, launching of new tools to improve manufacturing throughput, and IT systems integration and reporting.
- Responsible for Factory Quality, Supplier Quality, and Customer Quality for the Transit business.
- Develop, deploy and execute quality policies, objectives and plans that align and support the strategic business goals.
- Creates long-range quality plans for the organization focusing on the effective development of new systems to ensure life-cycle management of products.
- Provide strategic direction on Quality initiatives to Leadership, and drive implementation throughout the organization.
- Identify and initiate improvements to the quality management system, ensuring compliance to all relevant quality standards and regulatory requirements. Support deployment and implementation of ISO 9000 and 14001. Monitor and audit the quality management system processes for compliance, effectiveness, and continued alignment with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Ensure effective coordination of investigations, root cause analysis, risk assessments and implementation of change control, and corrective and preventive actions to the adhered timelines as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain quality system dashboards, scorecards/key performance indicators for the quality system processes. Review and monitor trends during Management Review Meetings. Create system for feedback loops and continuous improvement.
- Create strategy for supplier development by partnering with the sourcing team and advance program to improve ongoing supplier performance.
- Drive APQP and PPAP execution with new and existing suppliers.
- Manage external quality and regulatory relationships. Provides leadership and guidance in the event of a recall or field action.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven ability to manage multiple large continuous improvement initiatives in a large, complex, and technically sophisticated organization.
- Considerable knowledge of lean concepts and experience implementing lean principles in an organization.
- Extensive business management knowledge and experience. Must have a strong understanding of all functions within the business (Sales, Product Management, Engineering, NPI, Supply Chain, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, and Finance).
- Demonstrates mastery of facilitation in challenging situations of a difficult nature.
- Solid understanding and proven leadership ability to align, motivate and empower team members.
- Demonstrated ability for critical thinking, problem solving and innovation.
- Progressive and proven record of leadership with experience managing quality and continuous improvement in a manufacturing company.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), ISO & TS standards.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with APQP/PPAP, and in applying quality tools such as SPC, 8D, Root-cause analysis, etc.
- Broad range of tooling, manufacturing process, and workmanship standards experience.
- Experience with best-in-class manufacturing practices (Lean Manufacturing, visual management, data collection, material utilization, employee engagement, cross-training, standard work, Gage R&R, Calibration, etc.).
- Excellent coaching, mentoring and development skills.
- Displays exceptional communication skills with the ability to express ideas concisely and in an easily understood manner up through executive leadership.
- Ability to travel at short notice.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. Advanced degree in Engineering, Business, or management is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years’ progressive experience a combination of manufacturing, engineering, quality, and/or continuous improvement.
- 10+ years of experience and success providing direct leadership and mentorship to a team of employees.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
