Treasury Operations Lead

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive support to Proterra’s corporate finance team supporting Proterra’s Manufacturing and Engineering operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the formation of a best in class, ground up developed, treasury operations function for Proterra. You will report to the VP Treasurer and collaborate with other finance and accounting team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and manufacturing facilities in Los Angeles, CA and Greenville, SC.

The Treasury Operations Lead role is an opportunity to be part of a developing treasury team. If you are a self-starter who collaborates well with internal and external stakeholders, leverages bank and service provider relationships, and drives business requirements, come join us as we build a best-in-class Treasury organization for Proterra.

You will take the lead in developing and executing the vision for the treasury operations and strategy of a high growth scale-up organization. This position will be responsible for performing global treasury management transactions, analyses, forecasting and financial & management reporting. This position will drive process improvement and automation in these areas and manage the relationship with our primary banking partner. This is a new role created due to business growth and companywide strategic initiatives.

The role will report directly to the VP, Treasurer and is responsible for managing treasury operations company wide. The successful candidate should be an expert in treasury operations, including, cash management and liquidity management, short term borrowing, accounts receivable and payables, and the current Treasury best practices and leading processes. The ideal candidate should have a track record dealing with complexity, thrive under pressure, and have experience in a public company Treasury organization. Proterra primarily operates in the US, although the successful candidate will have experience globally with the expectation the company could expand into international markets in the future.

About the Role – You Will:
- Develop and execute a vision for the Treasury Department, partner with the VP Treasurer to define banking operations for Proterra to maximize return on excess cash and mitigate financial risks
- Establish departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
- Drive process improvement and automation initiatives
- Maintain strong bank relationships, including fee negotiations, contracts, pricing, and cash management interfaces
- Evaluate and implement optimal banking structure and bank services
- Establish centralized control over the movement of global cash balances to optimize cash
- Assess the possibility of implementing a Treasury Management System (TMS) to help with standardization, automation, safeguarding of cash and working capital improvement
- Implement process management by developing standardized key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Advise management on the liquidity aspects of its short- and long-range planning
- Oversee daily cash operations for US, ensuring adequate cash and liquidity is available to meet financial obligations
- Responsible for managing liquidity forecast and identify process improvements, including partnering with cross-functional teams to improve accuracy and reduce variances between forecasts and actuals
- Manage daily cash requirements, related borrowing needs and available funds
- Manage 13-week cash flow forecast model
- Manage the company’s debt, including coordination of covenant compliance, interest payments, principal amortization, and letters of credit
- Coordinate with Tax Manager and external advisors
- Support the smooth operation of A/R and A/P processing and other banking services and take the lead to resolve business critical issues in a timely manner
- Manage the on-going requirements of the company’s corporate insurance program; supporting the VP Treasurer in the annual renewals of those programs
- Assist management with overseeing the Company’s levels and timing of capital expenditures
- Responsible for monitoring global interest rate and foreign exchange exposures
- Provide general treasury support relating to any M&A or investment activities
- Implement and manage corporate procurement and T&E card programs and other banking products and services
- Maintain a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over treasury activities
- Assist Finance Team with cash planning/budgeting issues as required
- Prepare materials for internal and external auditors as requested
- Act as system administrator for treasury-controlled banking platforms
- Support ad hoc requests and projects
- Proficient utilizing the company’s ERP and consolidation software.
- Review treasury related journal entries.

Your Experience Includes
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related degree preferred.
- MBA, CTP or other professional designation a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Corporate Treasury
- Strong knowledge of banking services, Treasury trends and technology systems
- Familiarity with online banking platforms and security administration
- Expertise in ERP systems, reporting, data query
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including project management and implementation experience
- Proficient at creating managerial level presentations and analysis
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Power BI / Tableau Reporting and Dashboards
- Excellent interpersonal skills (oral, written & listening)
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced and fluid environment
- Self-starter: you take initiative, set goals, and meet them
