Staff Development Engineer

Position Overview

This position is part of the Integration Engineering team that essentially acts as high-power consultants for our customers, helping them with all aspects integrating our components onto their vehicle – ensuring accurate technical scope of work, defining interfaces, and acting as the lead technical contact throughout all phases of the project. This is an exciting team of diverse and dynamic electric vehicle experts located in strategic locations through the country, playing a key role to ensure success both for our organization and for customers. This position needs engineers with strong technical competency in electric vehicles as well as outstanding communication and collaboration skills.

About the Role – You Will:
- Lead analysis of technical requirements from 3rd parties at the beginning of project discussions, working closely with Business Development team to accurately scope engineering work.
- Create documentation of key architectural aspects with customers to define interfaces between them, Proterra, and possibly other 3rd parties engaged in the project, in various levels of detail. This includes cross-disciplinary aspects of mechanical, electrical/ HV, and software/ controls aspects.
- Work with customers and internal teams to troubleshoot software and controls issues for batteries, charging systems, and other HV component, using tools such as CANalyzer.
- Identify key customer safety requirements to determine feasible and impacts to Proterra systems, including crash, Functional Safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Engage with other internal Proterra teams early in the project to understand impacts to current Proterra products, modifications needed to support the customer’s applications
- Act as the key/ primary technical point of contact throughout various project activities, leading technical support, issue resolution, and customer design reviews as required.
- Build relationships with technical contacts at customers and 3rd party partners, creating trust and strong collaboration.
- Continuously evaluate Proterra processes for improvement and refinement, and propose creative methods to improve efficiency, robustness, and quality.

  • Systems background and able to represent with a moderate level of detail cross-functional mechanical, electrical, and software topics. You should have a specific specialty in one of those areas where you are an expert.

Your Experience Includes
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
- 3-15+ years of progressive engineering experience with vehicle design, performance, or systems integration experience.
- Commercial bus, heavy truck, or automotive vehicle systems development or integration experience required.
- Electric vehicle design experience preferred, with knowledge of Functional Safety ISO 26262 and other EV standards.

Travel: 15-30%
Location: Western Europe or UK-based
