Position Scope

As a Sr. Process Simulation Engineer, you are responsible for the development of process simulations, process engineering deliverables and additional objectives as defined by your management chain. Your focus will be defining the development plan for Carbon Engineering’s steady state process simulations and simulation tools used by the engineering team, develop process simulations of new processes or unit operations, and complete typical process engineering tasks on projects ranging in scale from a few thousand dollars to hundreds of millions.

Responsibilities
Technical:
- Define process simulation development plans and projects to improve functionality, accuracy, and usability of the models to meet the needs of Carbon Engineering
- Improve Carbon Engineering’s simulation capabilities through optimization of existing simulations, identification of areas of improvement, and development of new simulations.
- Analyze/simulate various process designs with aim to reduce plant CAPEX/OPEX
- Collaborate with direct manager and project managers to set targets for simulation development, and deliverables.
- Support projects from pre-FEED stage to detailed engineering through completion and review of process engineering deliverables.
- Support the commissioning of projects you helped engineer by conducting site reviews and inspections.
- Abide by the standards and policies of Carbon Engineering and the projects you are assigned.
- Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Engineering Team; a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
- Expected to be onsite in Squamish, BC at least 2 days/week and more frequently during commissioning/testing periods.

Leadership and Management:
- Collaborate with management and project managers to set deadlines for deliverables.
- Provide progress against milestones/deadlines to management.
- Identify constraints to achieving process simulation objectives or deliverable deadlines and define the resources required to overcome these (e.g., new hires, software, equipment).
- Mentor, support, and guide junior engineers in their professional development to ensure they develop both the technical understanding and personal fit needed to excel in their position.
- Set annual objectives and conduct performance reviews for direct reports.

Safety:
- Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
- Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.

Education and Experience
Education:
- B.Sc. in Chemical or Process Engineering or Equivalent

Experience:
- P.Eng registered or able to register with EGBC and stamp engineering documents
- 8+ years of experience in process engineering, or chemical plant projects
- 4+ years of experience developing process simulations

Key Competencies
- Advanced experience with process simulation software; familiarity with Aspen Plus is desired
- Familiarity with typical process engineering deliverables (Design Basis, Process Models, Heat and Material Balances, PFDs, P&IDs, Process control philosophy, etc.)
- Familiarity with cooling towers, precipitation reactors, filtration, centrifuges, solids handling, calciners, CO2 purification, or CO2 compression is desired but not required
