Social Media Marketing Assistant (Mexico)

Carbonwave is pioneering a new approach to transform Sargassum seaweed in the Caribbean – the first company with the know-how and vision to work in setting up the region as a global hub for an economy based on regeneration, and not extraction. With operations in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo (MX) and Cataño, Puerto Rico, in under two years we have found novel ways to turn the Sargassum seaweed emergency in the Caribbean into opportunity, developing materials for several industries that help replace fossil derivatives and regenerate ecosystems.

Helping create social stories to supercharge the seaweed revolution

You’ll be the second member of our growing Marketing and Comms team, and thus an important part of shaping our story at a time of fast growth. As a Social Media & Marketing Assistant you will be responsible for the further development and implementation of our social media strategy in Spanish and English, as well as identifying opportunities and narrative trends in countries and markets we are active in. Whether it’s an infographic, a meme, a partner story, or an in-depth blog post – we’ll look to you to come up with different formats to talk about our three product lines (touching agriculture, fashion, and beauty/cosmetics), our collection business (Grupo Ensol) and our general company mission. Given our environmental impact, it's critical to cover environment relevant matters in our editorial content that can speak to different audiences – from a farmer in Jalisco to a fashion influencer in Paris.

What’s Next

Please submit your resumé through Idealist. If your profile seems like a good match, we’ll contact you (via email) to ask you to complete one of the following tasks ideally in English (below) and share any writing samples that show your storytelling skills, ideally past work in social media, marketing, or journalism.
Once shared, we’ll review them and choose top candidates for a video interview with our head of marketing, to be conducted both in Spanish and English.

The tasks (choose either, once we've contacted you):
- Choose a recent environmental news story. Create a short post (1-2 sentences) you’d use to accompany the sharing/respost/retweet of that story, along with a meme relating to the news story (Meme generator: https://imgflip.com/memegenerator)
or
- Research and choose a crop in Mexico that’s affected by climate change. Think of a public official that doesn’t know a lot about agriculture. Now, write a short paragraph explaining what’s happening with that crop, how it is being affected by climate change, and make the case for why they should care about that crop. Include at least one official statistic to support your point. We are looking forward to receiving your application only through this platform!
