Sequencing Scientist

As a sequencing expert, you will use your experience to identify sequences of enzymes with improved characteristics which will then feed into commercially viable and scalable enzymatic bioprocesses. This is an absolutely key position as you will support the Enzyme Engineering and Strain Engineering teams in their pursuit of improved enzyme or strain fitness. You will use cutting edge techniques and state-of-the-art equipment in order to generate results in a minimal timeframe. You will be involved in activities such as::
- Mutant library QC and analysis of ‘hits’ generated through upstream screening processes.
- Develop and optimise long- and short-read sequencing methods specific to the needs of the other R&D teams.
- Develop and perform optimised sample and library prep techniques to streamline process in the laboratory.
- Feed into the development of screening techniques informed by downstream sequencing capabilities or limitations.
- Transfer of manual processes to high-end automation platforms and integrated workflows where needed.
- Work together with other members of the Enzyme Engineering team as well as other R&D teams including computational biologists, strain engineers and process engineers.
- Help to build-out new experimental facilities in the laboratory to enable rapid generation and testing of enzymes. Inform decision making on the sequencing platform(s) of choice for now and for future growth of the company.

We would like to hear from you if you have:
- Strong technical background in sequencing and molecular biology.
- Background in synthetic biology, biological engineering, or similar field.
- Min. 3 years relevant time spent in industry/academic with practical sequencing experience.
- Practical knowledge of multiple sequencing platforms.
- Knowledge of both laboratory-based and computational aspects of sequencing
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, working across multiple projects/experiments simultaneously.

Cherries on the cake would be:
- PhD in an appropriate research field.
- Demonstrated experience using Illumina, ONT and/or PacBio sequencing platforms.
- Expertise in bioinformatics pipelines for large sequence assemblies (including genome annotation, etc.), amplicon sequencing and RNAseq.
- Experience developing automated scripts/workflows for sequence analysis.
- Experience of high-volume sequence data analysis, genome annotation or similar bioinformatic skills.
