The Distributed Energy (DE) team develops, invests in, and delivers distribution-connected solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in North America. The DE team offers the full spectrum of BESS and PV+BESS solutions – from integrated ESS hardware and software, project development and investment to asset management and operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Project Development Manager in Solar & Storage is responsible for the commercial and technical management of proposals, contracts, policy briefs and other documents involving behind- and front-of-the-meter battery energy storage systems. This role will work with other team members, including project originators and developers, engineering, cost management, supply chain, and legal and regulatory staff to ensure that each proposal is developed within the Request for Proposal (RFP) guidelines and/or other requirements and be consistent with our company's strategy, commitments, and goals. With a strong focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS), this person oversees all aspects of proposals, including proposal budget, commercial and technical offer, schedule, customer, and subcontractor relations, and maintaining execution/sales team communications and relationships. The position reports to the head of C&I project development or other senior management personnel that the company’s President may designate. This is a “hybrid” role: some days in the San Francisco office; most days working from home or other location of choice near the office.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Seeks, analyzes and interprets Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Qualifications (RFQs), and Requests for Proposal (RFPs); establishes document production schedule.
- Drafts and coordinates proposals for projects involving storage to determine proposal feasibility and ensure competitiveness in the market.
- Assists in managing the growing team of people conducting analytical and documentary work, coordinating their schedules and scopes of work.
- Elicits potential clients’ business goals, operations, challenges, and requirements.
- Prepares and ensures on-time delivery of high-quality, detailed, and comprehensive technical and commercial proposals that are compliant with solicitation requirements and responsive to the interests of relevant stakeholders.
- Displays a high level of critical thinking in successfully resolving high-impact, complex, and cross-functional problems.
- Understands the C&I-scale BESS market as it relates to customer requirements, opportunities, and competition.
- Aids legal and commercial team members in preparing power purchase and similar agreements for prospective projects.
- Coordinates with supply team to ensure proposals incorporate up-to-date pricing and availability.
- Coordinates with BESS and energy management system product teams to ensure proposals incorporate latest product specifications, can be delivered on technically, and include relevant technical terms and exclusions.
- Coordinates with the legal team for negotiation of supply terms, and to ensure clear, unambiguous drafting of any special terms and conditions contained within proposals, draft contracts and other documents.
- Ensures the security of confidential and sensitive information.
- Performs other duties and special projects, as reasonably assigned by supervisor, project manager, and/or group unit.

REQUIREMENTS

- A graduate degree
- Three to seven (3-7) years of professional or commercial experience in proposal development and/or energy and/or other relevant fields
- Demonstrated facility with proposal development management practices, methods, and techniques, and/or related fields
- Experience in complex energy projects and high-level understanding of solar and energy storage project engineering, procurement, and construction processes
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors
- Demonstrated business acumen, such as in balancing requirements, strategic and tactical issues
- Familiarity with community choice aggregators and emerging resource adequacy requirements
- General understanding of the mid-scale solar and battery energy storage system industry, including cost drivers and key risks and opportunities
- Advanced English-language skills, especially in writing, and demonstrated facility with quantitative and engineering problems
