The purpose of this role

We hire leaders! As our Senior Composites Engineer, you will develop, test, and validate advanced composite parts and molding processes. You will have an opportunity leverage knowledge and experience of composites to create innovative designs and processes based on best practices. This is a crucial role with a unique opportunity to bring state-of-the-art composite programs from concept to reality.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
- Direct engineering actions to attain technical objectives by applying knowledge of product design and materials to derive at a solution proposal
- Evaluate technical requirements for designing composite structures and components
- Work quickly to understand application requirements and conduct composite materials and process certification, testing, and manufacturing implementation programs
- Assist with material characterization, supporting design for manufacturing, material selection, quality control, and new material development
- Provide ongoing engineering assistance to Operations during technology transition and scale-up,     including troubleshooting of process problems, conducting special testing campaigns, and developing detailed project reports

Your skills and expertise
- Minimum BS in materials science, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering or similar
- 5+ yrs. experience working in composites and advanced manufacturing
- General knowledge of basics of structural materials including typical microstructures, processing, and properties.
- General knowledge of standard mechanical testing of materials (e.g., hardness, tensile, fatigue, fracture toughness, stress-corrosion, etc.) including basic property calculations, test protocols, etc.
- General knowledge of standard laboratory characterization methods for materials
- General knowledge in Root Cause Analysis / Root Cause Corrective Action (e.g., Fishbone
- Knowledge of resins /fibers /fabrics, cure cycles, bonding of metal and composites and specifically in the areas of RTM and other compression molding processes.
- General knowledge in Root Cause Analysis / Root Cause Corrective Action (e.g., Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, 5-Why Analysis, etc.)
- Knowledge in lay-up and multi-layer composite structure design is preferred
- Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials is preferred
- Demonstrated applied knowledge of polymer science, process characterization, process-component performance relationships and materials processing is required
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings and providing guidance to design, stress and manufacturing engineers Experience reviewing engineering drawings and providing guidance to design, stress and manufacturing engineers
- Experience with materials and processes development for structural parts and assemblies utilizing composite and metal materials.
- Experience with manufacturing composite parts and assemblies including manufacturing processes, quality buyoff and manufacturing work orders/documentation
