OVERVIEW

Terramera is actively seeking a Remote Sensing Technician to join our Intelligent Agriculture team as a maternity leave replacement. At Terramera, we are working on ambitious projects to quantify soil health, sequester carbon in soil, promote regenerative agriculture, and transform how food is grown, globally.

The Remote Sensing Technician is responsible for processing earth observation data, including imagery and topographic derivates from both orbital and UAV platforms. The successful candidate will have a strong GIS skillset, including desktop, web, and programmatic GIS experience. Image processing, photogrammetry knowledge, and experience with data science are all assets.

This position is a one year full-time, fixed-term contract beginning in November 2022.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Reporting to the Lead, Remote Sensing Scientist, the Remote Sensing Technician will work closely with imagery scientists, agronomists, and machine learning specialists across the company.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Executes image processing and photogrammetry tasks to support in-field soil and plant health analytics
- Works with the GIS team to develop UAV flight plans, and completes geospatial corrections, image post-processing, and ingest to data architecture
- Accesses and manipulates data from satellite imagery catalogs, calculating vegetation indices and other imagery derivates
- Generates topographic indices from stereophoto and lidar-derived point clouds
- Performs other related duties and tasks as required

REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, GIS/Geomatics, Remote Sensing, or a related field. Geospatial technical diplomas and industry experience will be considered as equivalents, provided qualification can be demonstrated
- Proficiency using open-source geospatial libraries in Python (rasterio, geopandas, shapely), R (raster, RSAGA, RStoolbox), and GDAL/OGR
- Experience with image processing and photogrammetry software packages (e.g. ENVI, Pix4d, PCI Geomatica)
- Familiarity with the collection and processing of survey and positioning data

ASSETS
- Experience working with diverse types of remote sensing data; multispectral, hyperspectral, SAR, lidar
- Familiarity with large imagery catalogs such as Google Earth Engine and Microsoft Planetary Computer, or experience accessing imagery from STAC catalogs
- Knowledge of agricultural operations (particularly regenerative agriculture) or other experience in agtech
- Demonstrated ability to conduct field operations and research
