Job Overview:

The Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer requires expertise in design of control systems, ideally for large scale processes. This includes design of control logic, PLC design and integration, dynamic modeling of systems and subsystems, and feedback control design. As Principal I&C Engineer, you will help define engineering processes, mentor other engineers, and review and sign-off on engineering designs.

Being that Carbon America is a Start-Up, you will also need to work on engineering activities and will be expected to represent Carbon America in various external facing activities such as, Department of Energy engagement, partnership discussions, and investor relationships.

This is a staff position that reports to Carbon America’s Chief Engineer.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required
- 8+ years of direct Instrumentation & Controls design and engineering experience.
- Must have experience as a Lead Controls Engineer for multiple industrial or manufacturing projects and responsible for all project I&C design development
- Experience in designing to code/standards
- Experience with Control Logic
- Experience with PLC Hardware Design
- Experience with PLC Drawing Expertise
- Industrial Design and/or Manufacturing experience
- Experience in design and systems integration, e.g., electrical power, P&IDs, valves, piping, and I&C design
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite especially in the use of Excel
- Experience working with data base files.
- Excellent verbal and written communication

Preferred
- 2+ years’ experience in managing other engineers
- Electrical power experience
- Experience managing government or NGO projects

Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead in planning, coordination, execution of detailed engineering activities across multiple programs and projects 
- Coordinate and develop instrument & controls deliverables to appropriate codes and standards including but not limited to:
1. Instrument Index & I/O List
2. Instrument specification and data sheets
3. Network architecture diagrams
4. Support of PFD/P&ID development
5. Controls narratives and logic
6. Cause & effect charts 
- Quality control & assurance, review and sign-off on engineering designs 
- Develop Carbon America controls standards and engineering processes
- Design and program PLC systems 
- Develop feedback control algorithms 
- Model systems dynamically using custom Carbon America modeling tools 
- Develop and manage requirements for experimental hardware projects to ensure successful completion of test objectives 
- Mentor, supervise, and coordinate I&C engineers and technicians
- Interface with external parties

General Requirements and Job Details:
- Must be able to work at a computer for up to eight hours per day
- This position is based in our Arvada, Colorado offices
1. 0-15% travel required to project sites
- Work schedule is Monday through Friday; Full-Time, Exempt position with a salary range of $130,000 to $150,000
