Laboratory Manager Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the laboratory operations of an early-stage start-up
  • Management will include both manufacturing (thin-film coating and annealing) and metrology (spectrometer, luminescence detection, reflectometer) equipment being used for R&D
  • Manage equipment maintenance budget
  • Serve as internal repair resource
  • Generate and analyze data related to Photonic Smart Coating development
  • Collaborate with engineering team to train personnel and manage tools and inventory
  • Develop a preventative/predictive maintenance program
  • Lead and participate in the documentation of production and metrology procedures, SOPs, specifications and maintenance logs
  • Develop and implement efficient flows of material and people for processing and testing or experimental work
  • Develop and ensure adherence to lab safety guidelines and processes

Laboratory Manager Qualifications / Skills:
· Ability to manage competing priorities
· Willingness to wear many hats as needed in a start-up environment
· Successful history managing both off-the-shelf and customer equipment
· Strong interpersonal skills; history of satisfying internal customers
· Strong written communication skills

Education and Experience Requirements:
· Associates Degree in optics, photonics or a related field. Bachelors preferred.
· 5 years work experience with optical and photonics equipment
· 2 years in a supervisory position with 2 or more direct reports
Work Hours & Benefits:

The working hours are expected to be 40 hours per week usually within an 8am to 5pm window. Flexible scheduling of hours and working from home may be possible depending on the work at hand and needs in the office. The expectation for travel is very minimal.
