Optical Engineering Manager Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage engineering project plan in collaboration with CEO, CTO and V.P. of Product
  • Own and operate the engineering daily management process
  • Manage a growing team of engineers and interns
  • Manage the engineering budget for cost effectiveness
  • Collaborate with lab manager to train personnel and manage tools
  • Hands-on engagement with all aspects of the Photonic Smart Coating technology and daily problem-solving needs
  • Collaborate on strategic and tactical technical planning with CTO and other business leaders
  • Lead and participate in the documentation of experiments, designs, processes and procedures
  • Provide leadership for technology transfer support from engineering to scale up and manufacturing
  • Deploy industry best practices in DOE (design of experiments), Failure Analysis, DFM (design for manufacturing) to lay a solid foundation for manufacturing scale up
  • Apply professional project management practices to achieve project timelines within allocated budgets
  • Apply data analytics for the design of experiments, processes control, and quality assurance

Engineering Manager Qualifications / Skills:
· Ability to manage competing priorities
· Willingness to wear many hats as needed in a start-up environment
· Successful history mentoring and developing less experienced team members
· Deep understanding of product design and design for manufacturing
· Excellent written communication skills
· Ability to implement data-driven decision processes

Education and Experience Requirements:
· Bachelors Degree in optics, photonics or a related field. Advanced degree preferred
· 10 years work experience translating technology into product
· 5 years work experience leading engineering and scientific teams

Work Hours & Benefits:
The working hours are expected to be 40 hours per week usually within an 8am to 5pm window. Flexible scheduling of hours and working from home may be possible depending on the work at hand and needs in the office. The expectation for travel is very minimal.
