This position will provide comprehensive production test engineering support to Proterra's EV Battery Packs factory in Greer, SC., with occasional support to other sites if needed. In this role you will help design, develop, implement and maintain automated manufacturing test equipment for battery production lines. Your tests will verify mechanical and electrical systems in our battery packs to ensure that our customers get high-quality functional products. You will be a part of developing tests for new products and introduction of those tests into production. You will specify requirements from operations - identifying, developing, evaluating, improving, and commissioning testing equipment as well as support the manufacturing team to identify root causes and support technical corrective actions for battery pack testing and function. You will work with the functional teams to specify batteries testing, automation requirements and ensure compliant and efficient designs, lead the vendor and factory acceptance tests, software and hardware installations, design and execute batteries automation testing during commissioning and qualification test phases.
About the Role – You Will:
- Become the technical process expert for all testing throughout the battery pack manufacturing process
- Develop and implement test scenarios and test scripts for battery production
- Be involved in all phases of testing from design of parameters to troubleshooting errors and writing test procedures.
- Perform Gage R&R Studies on test equipment to assess its fitness for use in production
- Seek for continuous improvements to boost efficiency by reducing cycle time and waste
- Ensure that all testing and procedures meet company and industry standards
- Facilitate maintenance and servicing of test equipment
- Conduct root cause analysis on test failures and implement corrective actions
- Become part of a multi-disciplinary team that will integrate new technologies based on Industry 4.0 concepts
- Work with manufacturing team to assure that relevant new product testing protocols are applied to serial production
- Troubleshoot and detect any bug issues to ensure test software meets the developers' purpose
- Gain expert knowledge and ability to design, create, develop and manage test systems, for example, factory automation and battery test process automation
- Lead the test methodology for battery packs and subassemblies, transforming product knowledge and specs into electrical and functional test
- Design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and processes
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Your Experience Includes
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ Years of hands-on automated test experience in a Manufacturing or Process Assembly environment
- Experience with Labview or similar testing environment
- Experience supporting test equipment including functional end of line, hi-pot, flying probe, leak testers, etc.
- Experience with Battery Cyclers, experience with testing various battery technologies or other relevant electrical testing experience
- Experience using communication tools such as CAN for test automation and data collection
- Experience in database technology (Oracle, SQL) and scripting languages (Python, CI)
- Able to use digital multimeter, read electrical schematics, troubleshoot, data collection, write test reports, and communicate any test issues.
- Knowledge if Measurement System Analysis Methods (Gage R&R)
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Methods
- Skilled problem-solving techniques
- Green Belt or Black Belt certification, preferred but not required.
