Position Scope

As Manager, Maintenance, you lead engineers and technicians in the delivery of the new Innovation Centre maintenance, upgrade and automation activity; as well as additional objectives detailed by your management chain. You focus your team on developing an effective maintenance programme that achieves plant uptime targets; as well as maintaining an agile approach that enables an efficient pace of equipment upgrades. You support the scoping, fabrication and installation of plant modifications and upgrades in support of CE’s process optimization.

Key Responsibilities
Environment and Safety
- Champion a positive safety culture within the Maintenance Team.
- Maintain the plant in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
- Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
- Ensure the plant is maintained within all environmental legislation limits.

Leadership and Management
- Lead the team in delivering effective maintenance output.
- Oversee planning and executing of plant turnarounds.
- Maintain all plant operating permits; including pressure vessel registrations, gas operating permits and electrical operating permits.
- Oversee management of all contractors on site.
- Fulfill Maintenance Team responsibilities as detailed in CE policy.
- Foster and maintain a positive culture within the Maintenance Team; promote effective delegation, a questioning mindset and recognize failure as a learning opportunity.
- Mentor engineers and maintenance technicians; support and guide them in their professional development.
- Identify and support training opportunities for direct reports.
- Communicate management objectives to direct reports.
- Delegate projects to direct reports, monitor progress against milestones and provide progress reports to management.
- Identify constraints to achieving plant maintenance objectives and define the resources required to overcome these (e.g. new hires, software, equipment).
- Set objectives and conduct performance reviews for direct reports.
- Work with Human Resources to generate and/or update job descriptions.
- Lead the recruitment and onboarding of new hires into the Maintenance Team.
- Own all maintenance related activities that are non process specific.

Technical
- Develop a maintenance program implementation roadmap that:
- Achieves plant uptime targets.
- Maintains the agility to rapidly execute a high volume of modifications and upgrades in line with CEIC's mission as a R&D facility.
- Sets and maintains appropriate inventory levels for spare parts.
- Tracks and reports appropriate data to determine ‘bad actor’ trends and other reliability insights.
- Uses KPIs to measure and optimize maintenance programme efficiency.
- Implement predictive tools such as non-destructive inspection, vibration monitoring and health monitoring as appropriate.
- Use plant reliability data to maintain and update asset criticality and spares inventory levels.
- Grow and develop the CMMS system to optimize reliability, availability and efficiency of labor effort.
- Ensure that best practice is identified and implemented for maintenance planning, execution, review and data analysis.
- Identify, capture and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
- Identify and apply appropriate quality management tools and techniques to plant maintenance activities.
- Own and periodically review Reliability and Maintenance Philosophies, and Maintenance Business Processes.
- Implement and oversee a Root Cause Analysis process to administer and track technical fault investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Develop, implement and maintain Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) that reinforce attention to detail and tracking ‘as found/as left’ configuration.
- Provide specialist support to modification and upgrade programs.
- Provide specialist maintenance input to equipment design reviews at all lifecycle stages.
 
Education and Experience
Education:
- BSc in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Trade certification.

Experience:
- 5+ years of relevant experience as a Maintenance Manager in an industrial production environment such as pulp and paper, oil and gas, water treatment, chemical or mining.
- 10+ years experience as a Tradesman or Engineer in a plant maintenance environment.
- Experience implementing and optimizing CMMS.
- Experience developing and optimizing maintenance programs and schedules.
- Experience with reliability engineering and Root Cause Analysis.
- Project Management experience is desired.
