Lead Quality Inspector - Transit

Position Overview

This position will provide comprehensive Quality Inspection support to Proterra’s Greenville’s Site Quality Inspection team and report to the Quality Inspection Supervisor. You will be responsible for ensuring inspections on bus and bus components are completed accurately and in a timely manner. You will serve as the lead for inspectors when the inspector supervisor is not available and support inspections as the business needs. Further, you will have ownership of the inspection work instructions and create and modify instructions as needed.

About the Role – You Will:
- Plan and direct activities pertinent to the development, application and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes; create and maintain quality documentation, such as procedures, inspection plans, work instructions, quality assurance specifications, etc.
- Support the Production Line with Root Cause analysis and problem-solving skills; review production issues and articulate proper problem ownership of Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply chain.
- Present to Management the status of issues and countermeasures; participate with other stakeholders to drive more robustness in the manufacturing processes.
- Manage the timely resolution of defects found in the Material Review Board process; drive error proofing.
- Support quality control by performing inspections, ensuring the product and process comply with relevant specifications and requirements (FMVSS, DOT, FTA, White book, etc.).
- Maintain and uphold to high safety standards.
- Train and provide guidance to production associates and quality inspectors.
- Other duties as assigned by management.

  • You will report to the Site Quality Manager and collaborate with other Quality team members located at our headquarters in Burlingame, CA and other manufacturing facilities.

Your Experience Includes
- Associate Degree in a Technical Discipline or High School Diploma with relative experience.
- 3+ years of Electrical Technician experience, preferably in automotive, bus or heavy vehicle.
- 4+ years’ quality experience in a manufacturing environment including creating and administrating quality and compliance Work Instructions and Specifications.
- Strong problem-solving skills supported by structured Root Cause analysis.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Knowledge and understanding of the following: ISO 9001, TS 16949 quality systems, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Visual Factory reporting.
- Knowledge and application of quality and continuous improvement tools.
- Understanding of the Proterra Transit quality inspection process and rationale behind why inspections are structured as they are.
- Proficient computer skills that may include the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, Arena, Kronos, Ascentis, Outlook, Zoom or similar applications.
- Experience using the following measurement tools including but not limited to gages, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators CMM equipment.
- Physical Demands:
- May work various shifts as needed; may be requested to travel to different locations.
- Lifting up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds.
- Able to walk, stand, crouch, bench, kneel, lift, carry and reach as needed in large and tight spaces.
- Good eye/hand coordination and ability to identify color variations, depth perceptions and close or distance visual items.
- Manual dexterity with occasional repetitive finger motion.
- Environmental Demands:
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment with extreme heat and cold conditions.
- Wear protective clothing or respiratory protective equipment.
- Works with irritant chemicals, gases, etc.
