Job Description

ElectraSteel is seeking a versatile Hydrometallurgical Engineer with a strong background in the design of development of processes and equipment for the processing and purification of metals from ore. The Hydrometallurgical Engineer will design chemical processes, build test systems able to characterize and optimize those processes, perform experiments, and analyze the results to make decisions. A “can do” attitude and an ability to manage multiple priorities and objectives are critical.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for sustainability, will thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial setting, be self-motivated, and have an interest in disruptive, cutting-edge technology

Primary Responsibilities
- Design ore processing and purification processes to meet goals and specifications, including critically evaluating process alternatives and developing mass and energy balances.
- Select and size equipment and build test systems to test new processes and/or scale up existing processes
- Assist with construction and operation of test systems from lab to pilot scale.
- Independently design experiments, collect experimental data and analyze results to make decisions.
- Ensure safe operation of all test platforms and help develop safe testing procedures.
- Interface with a research team to identify opportunities for optimization and improvement.

Qualifications
- BS in Chemical Engineering, Mining/Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years in a process design/development or research and development role
- Hands-on experience in a design or experimental role working with the processing and purification of metals
- Experience with mass and energy balances, chemical reactors, separations equipment, and thermodynamic and fluid flow calculations
- Experience analyzing experimental data, reaching conclusions, and communicating results
- Experience with equipment selection and sizing, especially fluid systems (pumps, valves, heat exchange equipment, etc.)
- Ability to assemble and troubleshoot equipment and related instrumentation.
- Must be a "self‐starter" and follow tasks through to completion with little guidance.
- Must be able to work in a team environment to collectively solve problems.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, affable, with demonstrated maturity and professionalism.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a small, dynamic team.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electrochemical reaction systems
- Experience with custom process instrumentation, data acquisition, and control
- Experience implementing safety measures for gas- and liquid-based processes.
- Programming background including Python, R, JavaScript, C++, or equivalent, especially for data analysis, mass balances, thermodynamics, etc.
- Experience using JMP statistical analysis software including JSL
