ZeroAvia is a leader in zero-emission aviation, flying the world's largest hydrogen-electric aircraft since September 2020. Its focus is the design and commercialization of hydrogen-powered aviation solutions to address a variety of markets, initially targeting short-haul, sub-regional commercial flights up to 500 miles. To date, ZeroAvia has secured the UK CAA and FAA experimental permit to fly for its 6-seat aircraft powered by hydrogen-electric powertrain passed significant flight tests and is on track for commercial deliveries by 2024. Its achievements to date were rewarded by the UK prime minister by inviting ZeroAvia as a member of the UK Jet Zero Council.

ZeroAvia’s powertrain development focuses on integrating hydrogen storage tanks, fuel cell systems, and electric motors, delivering a solution that will be not only without carbon emissions but also cheaper to operate. Commercializing the solution requires the establishment of a new clean aviation ecosystem, encompassing hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and tackling public perception of safety.

Specific project tasks for the internship will include:
- Hydrogen operations: The Infrastructure team is responsible for the resilient provision of hydrogen for the development and testing of our prototype aircraft engine at Kemble. The intern will help ensure a consistent service of the existing hydrogen infrastructure which will involve operational work such as system maintenance & checks (electrolyzer, compressor, storage tanks), moving the trailer, etc. At a later stage, the intern will perform similar tasks at other airports as the team deploys projects (hydrogen project supervision).
- Piping and instrumentation design, build and testing; ** Design (P&ID, PEFS, single line diagrams), and build work mainly focused on high-pressure pipework and instrumentation. The intern will also be involved in testing the systems developed by both the Infrastructure and the Power Generation System (fuel cell) teams.
- **Documentation
: As part of the above activities, the intern will participate in the writing of process and safety documentation as well as verification matrices, material selections, system lists, specification sheets, Bills of Materials, etc.

Background/Skills required
- HND in gas fitting, working towards a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering or similar preferred
- Any interest or experience in compressed gas engineering/construction operations (hydrogen preferred)
- Understanding of P&IDs and PEFS and ability to convert P&IDs into mechanical designs and construction drawings, CAD (SolidWorks preferred) 
- A safety mindset, bring energy and fresh ideas to our safety processes 
- Knowledge of safety, verification matrices, material selections, system lists, specification sheets, Bills of Materials
- Interest or experience in working within a scale-up organisation 
- ATEX experience is an advantage
- Heavy goods vehicle license is an advantage

Training and support will be given so you will be able to:
- Operate safely within the workplace including HSSE training, PPE on-site and appropriate tool selection
- Engage with the local market, engineering specialists in materials, pressure equipment etc. and integrate as needed into projects
- Resolve design issues with the opportunity for detailed design and build
- Develop to self-start and be part of high-paced technical programme developments
- Participate in Front End Engineering Design studies
