Discovery Project Scientist

Kula Bio is a leader in sustainable nitrogen solutions, helping farmers improve crop yield and reduce environmental impact. We make a cost-competitive biofertilizer that boosts a naturally occurring process to deposit meaningful amounts of nitrogen in the soil.

We are looking for two highly innovative, results-oriented research scientists to join our R&D team at Kula Bio. They will be working closely with an interdisciplinary team across a matrix organization to develop cutting edge microbial solutions using our state of art processes for Crop Improvement.

Duties:

  • Develop and manage project plan in alignment with organizational research targets with focus on key deliverables, timelines, and milestones
  • Generate hypothesis, design Experiments, perform laboratory research to evaluate microbial based concepts
  • Lead the development & implementation of protocols for research target evaluations
  • Perform data analysis and present experimental results to supervisors, highlighting important results and defining next step experiments
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of project results, and present to the leadership team on Go/No go decisions
  • Work closely with R&D leadership, to identify emerging opportunities to accelerate the project and ensure monitoring of project specific collaborations
  • Stay current with literature and the latest technology developments in areas of interest
  • Work with external service providers

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Agriculture with specialization in Microbiology, Ecology, Soil Science, Crop Physiology, Agronomy, Plant Molecular Biology with minimum of 1-year relevant experience OR a M.S. in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience and broad understanding of scientific principles
  • Ability to conceptualize, design, and execute experiments that address research questions
  • Innovative mind set, think outside the box and ability to translate ideas into results
  • Proficiency with experimental design, statistical analysis, and scientific instrumentation
  • Experience conducting mode of action studies in controlled environmental conditions
  • Ability to organize own work, set priorities and meet deadlines, record data with details
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a shared laboratory setting and be flexible to assist others in the team as needed
  • Must be persistent, assertive, results-oriented, and have strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to mentor team members in good lab and biotech industry practices
  • Have a pioneering attitude with the ability to wear multiple hats working in a fast-paced R&D environment

Preferred Skills:

  • Scientific background in biofertilizer /bioinoculants, crop protection Biologics or related field demonstrated by research publications or projects
  • Statistical skills
