Station A is the first AI-powered clean energy marketplace that aims to make clean energy cheaper, more accessible, and more transparent to everyone. Our mission is to transition the world to 100% clean energy.

We are a seed-stage company and passionate team based in the San Francisco Bay Area (remote friendly). Multiple projects have now run through our marketplace, we have over 2,000 providers in our network, and we have a growing pipeline of more than $600M in clean energy projects under evaluation by buyers. We're now looking to scale our impact and enable anyone to easily power a building with 100% clean energy.

Your contribution

As Director of Engineering, you'll help build and manage Station A’s engineering group. You'll support software engineers by helping them maintain focus on outcomes and in ensuring we ship great software that creates value for our customers. You’ll also support the engineering group in individual growth and goal-setting to help our team of contributors grow. Lastly, you’ll also be involved in supporting our tech leads in their roles to keep projects on track, and play a critical role in hiring and onboarding new team members. Your expected start date will be January 2023.

Examples of what you'll work on
- Working with your cross-functional teams to help manage schedules, find important points of collaboration with other teams, reworking scope in projects, driving conversations around tracking key business metrics, and to build great relationships with commercial and product stakeholders
- Creating regular one-on-one space to chat with each of our software engineers to listen to and provide individual feedback, ensure they are feeling engaged and productive, and helping them to set and track goals for personal development
- Facilitating engineering group conversations and events such as our internal culture and process discussions, tech conferences, and internal system demos and walkthroughs
- Organizing regular feedback and performance reviews as the basis for finding opportunities to improve and strengths to celebrate, in addition to carving out safe ways to offer a new challenge
- Partnering with the Head of Engineering to help execute on key technology objectives such as: managing the operational efficiencies of our growing product development teams, advocating for a product-driven approach to achieving key business metrics, supporting continued investments into open source software and data initiatives, building out a “community-driven” product development operation
- Working with the Head of Engineering and Director of Operations to manage hiring plans, budgets, and to manage interviewing and onboarding new team members

You are a great facilitator and organizer who encourages people to engage on complex problems to find creative solutions. You also understand the value of building strong, cross-functional relationships with team members across the company.

You also see leadership as an opportunity to help demonstrate “what good looks like” and to lead by example. You understand technology at a deep level and can write code when required. You also understand the importance of planning tight feedback loops through MVPs without sacrificing on maintaining a quality product.

Station A is a remote-first company. You value both spending quality, unstructured time with teammates while also understanding the importance of focused documentation and asynchronous, written forms of communication.

Ideally you haveyou have two or more years experience as a director or engineering manager ideally at an early-stage, product-driven startup following a career as a senior individual contributor. Pay and benefits

We believe in the importance of pay transparency. The base salary for a Director of Engineering is $150-180k plus stock options and an annual target bonus.
