What we are looking for:

Stem is seeking a Director of Federal Government Affairs based in the Washington D.C. area who will help to shape the company’s federal public policy positions. The Director will develop and execute strategies to realize those positions, manage relationships with a variety of relevant stakeholders and lawmakers and advise on critical emerging issues. The role reports to the Vice President of Policy & Regulatory Affairs. The ideal candidate has recent Capitol Hill experience in energy, preferably cleantech and/or advanced energy, and is passionate about creating a modern, cleaner and more resilient grid.

Responsibilities:
- Further shape and promote Stem’s U.S. Federal public policy goals and design strategies in support of those goals
- Monitor the U.S. Federal policy and regulatory environment
- Communicate across various Stem departments on the implications of policy developments and strategies to address likely outcomes
- Manage and direct the activities of key partners and 3rd party advocacy groups at the federal level
- Participate in industry association working groups to educate and drive Stem’s policy positions
- Direct Stem’s engagement with government stakeholders
- Occasional travel to attend industry events and represent Stem

Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years’ federal public policy/government affairs experience
- 5+ years’ experience working directly with lawmakers/policymakers/staff
- Experience of successfully working as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge directly on/related to Capitol Hill
- Demonstrated success in executing on solutions to address energy policy challenges and leverage opportunities
- Ability to link policy efforts and priorities to Stem’s strategic business plan
- Familiarity with lobbying ethics and compliance rules including filing registrations and disclosures
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to drive agreement among multi-functional teams, both with and without direct authority
- Ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders
