JOB CATEGORY

Carbon13 is looking for aspiring cofounders to join our eight month venture-building programme.

When you join one of our cohorts, you'll be welcomed into a community with hundreds of other founders all working on solutions to save the climate.

Carbon13 is tailored to support purpose-driven people, whether they're new to climate, entrepreneurship or venture builders, or if they've already accumulated expertise in those areas (about half of our founders have founded a startup before). And unlike traditional accelerators, you do NOT need to have a startup idea already - we can help with that - though half our founders are already working on ideas when they join.

Our mission: Save the climate and aim big - before it's too late

Carbon13 is the Venture Builder for the Climate Emergency. We are laser-focused on supporting founders solving for the climate, and the climate only. To do that, we ask every new founder on our Venture Builder to aim big, to build a solution with the potential to reduce carbon dioxide (or equivalent greenhouse gases) by 10 million tonnes per year - and all our support is designed to help you reach that figure.

Why? The climate doesn't have time for us to waste on false starts, tinkering at the edges, or greenwashing.

"Through Carbon13 I was able to speak to experts who understand how to measure impact via the language of carbon. This helped me develop and fine-tune my venture's narratives for the climate-focused investor within the first few weeks." Athan Fox, CEO 17Cicada"

How the Venture Builder works

Our Venture Builder supports you to work as intensively on understanding your impact on emissions, as on your venture's commercial trajectory and investment readiness. Both are equally important to build a game-changing startup that can achieve commercial success and significant impact.

To get to that 10 million tonnes, you'll need three things: 1. a cofounder, 2. Carbon Intelligence, and 3. the right strategy from the start.

And because Carbon13 focuses on those three things, our Venture Builder is currently the strongest platform for you to build a scalable decarbonisation or carbon capture venture from scratch - we've already helped launch and fund 32 ventures in 18 months. They include methane capture, alternative protein, carbon negative concrete, green chemicals, carbon removal insurance, quantum computing for materials discovery, and bioplastics.

Here's what you'll do:

Find your cofounder: you'll find your purpose-driven technical cofounder among the scientists, developers and engineers who make up the rest of our cohort. This will be the most crucial decision you'll take on your journey, and together, you'll form a team both deeply committed to, and capable of, launching a game changing venture for the climate.

Understand the carbon intelligence of your solution to maximise its potential to reduce emissions – and communicate this to investors, customers, and stakeholders

10 million tonnes: develop both the commercial and strategic groundwork to scale the startup to 10 million tonnes of CO2e emissions reduction per year.

Want to know more?

You're very welcome to drop us an email (hello@carbonthirteen.com) to chat about the Venture Builder - or join one of our weekly webinars at https://carbonthirteen.com/webinars . We'll discuss the programme in depth and the urgent challenges in decarbonisation, with plenty of time for Q&A.

What are the requirements?

There's no tick list of requirements to be a founder with Carbon13. Each cohort has 70 founders from completely different backgrounds, industries, demographics and interests, united by their commitment to fighting the climate emergency.

If you are as excited by the idea of reducing emissions by millions of tonnes as we are, then you should make an application - or drop us an email to chat about whether the programme's right for you and your plans.

If you're from a commercial background and would take on the CEO role or other business-side cofounding role, then you'd be joining other entrepreneurs, operators, corporate innovators, commercial directors from industry, anyone with a track record of execution and commercial acumen.

Working on a climatetech idea already?
Unlike accelerators, you do NOT need an idea or MVP to join Carbon13, though you can apply with one if you do. You will either be supported to find an idea to develop which can significantly reduce emissions, or join a cofounder/team who bring IP or an idea or strong insights into an emitting industry.

As a founder with a commercial skillset, you may choose to apply your skills to a software idea, or, you may choose to cofound a hardtech or deeptech startup with a scientist/engineer cofounder. Half of our ventures are software, half are science-based/hardtech. You can view our portfolio of ventures at www.carbonthirteen.com/our-portfolio

Applications are open now for our next two cohorts:
Berlin Cohort 1 starts 21st February 2023

Cambridge Cohort 5 starts 14th March 2023

Apart from nine in-person days in Berlin or Cambridge, you can do the programme from anywhere in the world. The rest of the programme is delivered remotely.
