The role

As a Cell and Molecular Scientist, you’ll be a key part of our innovative research and development, joining us on the journey towards taking a cultured meat product from the research laboratory to a commercial scale. The Differentiation team is already responsible for creating some ground-breaking techniques and IP, and we plan to stay at the forefront of innovation in the cultivated meat sector; you’ll play a key part in delivering the stem cell and differentiation projects that will allow us to achieve our critical milestones.

You’ll use the experience you’ve already gained (ideally within a research-based industry), working alongside our stem cell scientists and other molecular biologists to solve complex scientific problems and deliver high-quality results. You’ll be managing all aspects of project execution from the design of the experiment to the final report, as well as supporting the work of other scientists.

This role is based in Cambridge, UK, and we’ll need you to be onsite most of the time. Our Differentiation team currently works at our lab in the Cambridge Science Park, but in the next few months, we’ll move across to our new state-of-the-art facility on the east side of the city.

What you’ll be doing:
- Working as part of the Differentiation team, conducting experiments with autonomy and minimal guidance or supervision
- Contributing to the developments of our in-house differentiation technology, including our proprietary molecule systems
- Working closely with stem cell scientists, molecular biologists, bioprocess engineers and other biomaterial scientists to find the best solutions to highly complex challenges
- Developing and implementing assays for the validation of cell differentiation, in line with our Quality and regulatory framework

What we think you need:
- Molecular biology expertise ideally with the handling of DNA, RNA, experience with cell transfection, plasmid production, and protein expression in mammalian systems
- Cell culture experience, ideally in stem cell (ESC/iPSC) preferably including differentiation
- Experience with vector design using programmes such as Vector NTI / AlignX/ ApE / BLAST etc.
- A thorough understanding of transcriptomics and gene expression profiling
- Experience with qPCR and protein quantification methods
- High level of organisational skills
- The ability to respond positively to unplanned events in a fast-paced environment
- Strong goal focus and a high comfort level with autonomous working
- Passionate about using your skillset to effect positive change

We’d love it if you also have:
- Significant experience in a cutting-edge technological field e.g. genome engineering or RNA technologies
- Experience working within a quality system or a process-driven environment
- Experience with protein analysis methods e.g. HPLC, GLC, ELISA
