Product Manager - VPP

Geli provides software and business solutions to design, automate, and manage energy storage systems.
This is a San Francisco based position that is currently remote and will have a hybrid schedule once we return to office. We are open to candidates willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.

ABOUT THE JOB
The Product Manager- VPP is responsible for definition of GELI’s VPP (Virtual Power Plant) platform for Residential& commercial applications. This position supports the development of a scalable, hardware-agnostic software platform that accelerates grid integration of DER resources. The platform further enables DER fleets to participate in utility programs via demand response programs and other grid service programs. This position will work closely with GELI’s software engineering & project management team. This is a high-visibility, high-impact position in a fast-growing team with an opportunity to contribute to overall business strategy and product vision. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with demonstrated success in a consulting/advisory role for cross-functional teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Write detailed product requirements for the VPP platform and work closely with optimization, forecasting, cloud & control SW teams.
  • Own customer journey and workflows and support creation of monitoring UI, fleet aggregation & fleet management UI
  • Lead the integration efforts with various SW partners via API, cloud or driver integration, and DER integration via Open ADR, IEEE 2030.5, or other protocols.
  • Define test criteria and use case for new product verification and follow through with M&V of released SW products.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on VPP programs, Demand response programs, Load control programs & fleet aggregation concepts.
  • Lead product lifecycle from inception to launch and manage subsequent market delivery.
  • This position primarily focuses on US markets and supports AU, EU, and Japan markets.
  • All other duties as assigned by Senior Management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree or higher in Power System, Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering
  • 5+ years product management experience working with EMS providers, VPP platform providers, utility company or electricity retailers.
  • Strong understanding of tariff structure, demand response programs, power market operations
  • Experience working with internal & external stakeholders and setting expectations.
  • Understanding of mathematical optimization & forecasting techniques preferred
  • Strong analytical capability and financial acumen
  • Able to convert complex technical requirements into an actionable plan.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in pressure situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated experience bringing successful products to the market in Solar, Wind and/or Energy Storage
  • Passionate about solving customers’ problems and focused on product value to the customer
  • Focused on the ‘why’ and ‘what’ of the products and be comfortable letting the Engineering team figure out how to deliver features
  • Self-starter and self-motivated leader working with a cross-functional team
  • Ideally have read:
