Mechanical Engineer - R&D Focus

Climate Robotics develops robots designed to efficiently generate bio char to sequester carbon and improve soils, starting with urban land.

Climate Robotics is a venture-backed startup based in Houston, TX. We are building the next generation of agricultural machinery to produce biochar, a powerful soil amendment that improves soil health and sequesters atmospheric carbon. We seek dynamic, driven, and adventurous engineers to join our team in developing in-field pyrolysis systems. Tinkereers, hackers, and mad scientists preferred. You will work with our team bringing pioneering technology to life, coordinate research projects, and contribute to the successful execution of projects. This role is in person at our Houston location.

Responsibilities:
- Create models and drawings of R&D systems and parts in SolidWorks
- Research different pathways and present data-driven solutions to technical problems
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to develop novel, in-field pyrolysis systems
- Meet project deliverables and timelines
- Coordinate work with outside vendors
- Be hands-on in the assembly, testing, and operation of R&D systems or mobile pyrolysis systems
- Develop and modify detailed work instructions for assembly and testing
- Inspect fabricated parts to ensure conformance with design specifications
- Develop and/or review test plans and procedures, conduct testing, and assist with test report generation
- Demonstrate a quick and flexible approach to problem-solving
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Promote a collaborative work environment

Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with FEA, CFD, and GD&T
- Experience with large-scale industrial equipment, agricultural equipment, or mobile tools
- Experience with hydraulic systems, mainly designing hydraulic circuits
- Previous experience in a fast-paced R&D environment

Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or similar
- Excellent hands-on experience working with electrical and mechanical systems
- Previous experience working on R&D projects
- Project management experience
- Excellent analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Alignment with company mission
- Authorized to work in the USA for any employer

Work Environment
Regularly works around moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat, and humidity. The noise level may be loud at times.
